Biography

The representative of the Lithuanian magnate family Radzivillov coat of arms " Pipe ". The son of the great chancellor of Lithuania, Nikolai Radziwill (c. 1470-1521) and Elzbety Sakovich. The brothers are Bishop of Samogit Nikolay Radziwill (c. 1492–1530) and the headman Stanislav Radzivill Ushpolsky (d. 1531).

He owned estates in the territory of modern Lithuania and Podlasie . He was the headman of Vasilishsky (1523) and Belsky (1522), the Markovsky holder (1520-1534). The Prince of the Holy Roman Empire on Goniondz and Myadel (1521–1542).

Ian Radziwill took part in the last war of Poland against the Teutonic Order (1519-1521). He was a member of the commission for the delimitation of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from Mazovia (1529), Prussia (1532) and Livonia (1540–1541).

In the 1530s – 1540s, he was part of the triumvirate (Jan Radziwill, his uncle Jerzy Radziwill and Albrecht Gastold ), who actually ruled the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the absence of the Polish king Sigismund the Old .

In 1534 - 1537, Jan Radziwill participated in the Russian-Lithuanian war .

Family

From 1524 he was married to Anna Kostevich, the only daughter and heiress of the governor of Vitebsk and Podlasia, Janusz Kostevich (died 1527) and Marianna Ugrovskaya. The couple had three daughters:
