The area is located in the central part of the county of Hertfordshire , in the north it borders on the county of Bedfordshire .
History
The area was formed on April 1, 1974 as a result of the union of the urban borough of St. Albans , the urban area ( Eng. Urban district ) of Harpenden and the rural area ( Eng. Rural District ) of St. Albans . The city district ( borough ) of St. Albans has had the status of " city " since 1877, on July 9, 1974, the status of " city " was confirmed for the entire district.
