Story

Cara, James, Wynn, Alex, Eliza, and Mont-El come together at the same table to celebrate Thanksgiving . James and Wynne decide whether to tell Kara the secret of the Sentinel’s identity, while Alex is about to come out with his mother. However, in the midst of her toast, a mysterious interdimensional portal opens above the table. The next day, J'onn finds out why Cadmus needed Kara's blood. Cara visits Lena Luthor to understand how much she is aware of the activities of her mother Lillian and Cadmus. After her departure, Lena contacts her mother and invites her to inform her that one of the reporters suspects her. Hank Hanshaw sets up a device in the bar for aliens that starts to spread caustic gas and leaves. Mon-El takes him for J'onn and goes after him, a fight ensues in which Daxamite loses. Returning to the bar, Mont-El finds all the aliens dead.

Mon-El is quarantined and J'onn is inclined to agree with Alex to isolate Kara too. Eliza is called to secrete a toxin and find an antidote. Meanwhile, the virus begins to kill Mont-El and is transferred to the hospital compartment. Eliza believes that the virus was created on Krypton, as a result of which Kara is convinced that Hank Henshaw needed her blood to penetrate the Fortress of Solitude. Having gone there, she meets the robot Calex, who for some reason takes her for an attacker and attacks, and Kara is forced to destroy him. After that, she finds out that Hank needed files on a certain Medusa project - a virus. which her father, Zor-El, together with other Krypton scientists created to deal with potential invaders. Meanwhile, Alex is again trying to make a cuming out, but her mother herself guessed and fully supported. Kara talks to J'onn: she is upset that her parents created a potential genocide weapon, and he reveals to her that he is turning into a white Martian.

Alex and Eliza conclude that in order to use the virus for military purposes, Cadmus lacks the rare isotope recently discovered by L-Corp scientists. Kara and Henshaw clash in the lobby of the company, and when he tries to kill Lena, Supergirl defends her. Police arrive, led by Maggie Sawyer, and Hank attacks them, injuring Maggie. At this moment, the interdimensional portal reopens above the heads of those present, preventing Cyborg-Superman from stealing the isotope. J'onn and Wynn doubt that Lena is different from her mother, so Supergirl tells Lena that her mother is Cadmus's leader, but in return receives only accusations that the superhero continues the same witch hunt that Superman started against Luthor . In the Far East, Mon-El tells Kare that according to Eliza, he is dying. He kisses the girl after she admits. that the Medusa project is her family’s mistake.

In L-Corp, Lena argues with Lillian, but still gives her the desired isotope. Wynn traces it to the port area of National City. Kara initially persuades J'onn to stay, but he objects, saying that he wants to die a hero. In port, Supergirl is trying to convince Lena not to release a rocket, but she does not listen to her. As a result, Supergirl tries to catch up with the rocket, and J'onn begins the battle with Hank. In battle, he transforms into a giant monster - a hybrid of green and white Martians - and gets great opportunities. Meanwhile, Supergirl failed to stop the rocket and the weapon explodes, but since the virus in it was harmless thanks to Lena Luthor, it has no effect. Lillian was arrested, but Hank Henshaw was able to leave.

Somewhere in space, a certain group of aliens are looking for Mon-El or any other surviving Daxamite and is ready to destroy any planet that has stood in their way. Meanwhile, Mon-El himself recovered, and Eliza rebuilt the molecules of the Medusa virus in such a way as to cure J'onn. Kara asks Mont-El about their kiss, but he ignores her and the girl closes the topic. Maggie admits that Alex's feelings for her are mutual and they kiss. Later, a portal opens in Cara’s apartment and Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon pass through it. Surprised and at the same time delighted, Kara, having learned that her friend needs help, gladly agrees to go to their world for a while.

Link to the Universe Arrows

The episode ends with a scene that links it to a series of crossovers known as “ Invasion! "And including episode 8 of season 3 of the Flash television series, episode 8 of season 5 of the Strela television series and episode 7 of season 2 of the television series Legends of Tomorrow . This scene was subsequently duplicated in the first part of Invasion! Kara also appears in all three parts of the crossover series as a guest. Crossovers clearly define that it exists in another universe parallel to the Arrow Universe. In the story, her world is referred to as Earth-38, and Mark Guggenheim unofficially defined it as “Earth-CBS”, naming it after the channel on which the first season of the television series “Supergirl” was broadcast [1] [2] [3] .

Criticism

The episode received generally positive reviews. AV Club reviewer Caroline Sid gave Medusa a rating of B [4] .

IGN 's Cliff Wheatley rated the episode at 8.4 / 10, noting that the series “provided the first half of season 2 with good support.” This episode largely escaped the Sentinel's unimpressive sideline in favor of more significant threats. In Cara / Mont-El's enjoyable romance, the conflict with Lillian Luthor, and the battle with Hank Hanshaw, there was much to be loved for the half-season finale. Unless of course this is for the sake of relations with crossovers ” [5] .
