“Khas-Bulat Daring” [1] (another name is “Elegy” ) - Russian romance . Words by A.N. Ammosov , music by O. Kh. Agrenyeva-Slavyanskaya . The poem was first published on November 16, 1858 in the newspaper " Russian disabled person ". It uses the theme of romanticizing the highlanders of the Caucasus, which is popular in Russian poetry since Lermontov . Alexander Ammosov himself was an officer who served in the Caucasus, which could be a source of inspiration for him. To the music, the poem was laid later, by the wife and ally of the famous collector and performer of folk songs Dmitry Agrenev-Slavyansky , Olga (1847-1920). According to another version, Olga Agreneva-Slavyanskaya only processed the melody, which by that time already had a romance. Romance has become an often performed, popular song already at the end of the XIX century [2] .

Similar to the US anthem
The basis for Elegy's music was either the melody of the Anacreon song , written by John Smith around 1780, or the American patriotic song (later the official anthem of the USA ) “The Star-Spangled Banner” (performed to this melody from 1814). Therefore, there is an erroneous opinion that the music of the US national anthem is plagiarized to the music of the romance “Hasbulat the Daring” [4] [5] . Although in fact they just have a similar beginning [6] .
