The history and combat path of the regiment

The 926th Fighter Aviation Regiment began to be formed on June 22, 1942, at the Batay military aviation school of pilots at the Yevlakh airfield, according to state 015/174, on LaGG-3 aircraft. Finally formed July 9, 1942. On July 9, he joined the Air Force of the Transcaucasian Front, did not conduct combat operations. On July 15, the regiment relocated to the airfield Novoalekseevka ( Tbilisi ) to receive the LaGG-3 aircraft from plant No. 31. From 8 to 12 August, the regiment was part of the 4th Air Army of the Northern Group of the Transcaucasian Front and performed the tasks of the air defense of the port of Makhachkala [1] .

On August 13, 1942, the regiment began combat operations as part of the 219th bomber aviation division of the 4th Air Army of the Northern Group of the Transcaucasian Front on aircraft LaGG-3 [1] .

The first known airborne victory of the regiment in the Patriotic War was won on August 15, 1942: by a pair of LaGG-3 (leading lieutenant A. L. Chirkin) in an air battle in the area of ​​art. Zolskaya shot down a German Me-109 fighter (Messerschmitt Bf.109) [1] .

On September 2, 1942, the regiment of the LaGG-3 aircraft with pilots from the 927th IAP, and on September 18, transferred the unit with the pilots to the 790th IAP and departed to the 6th separate training aviation regiment of the 4th air army . On October 8, 1942, the regiment was moved to the rear for retrofitting [1] .

In the 26th reserve fighter regiment of the Transcaucasian Military District (st. Sandary GruzSSR) in the period from October 30, 1942 to March 28, 1943, the regiment was re-formed according to state 015/284 and re-equipped. March 24, received 32 lightweight LaGG-3 squadron "Soviet Georgia" [1] .

From April 2, 1943, he returned to combat work as part of the 229th Fighter Division of the 4th Air Army of the North Caucasus Front. On November 29, together with the 229th Fighter Aviation Division of the 4th Air Army, it was incorporated into the forces of the Separate Maritime Army , which liberated the Crimea. December 15, 1943 expelled from the army [1] .

From December 16, 1943 to March 27, 1944, he was in the reserve of the UGCC in the air force of the North Caucasus Military District at the airfield of Armavir, where it was reorganized according to the state 015/364 and mastered La-5 fighters. He departed from the Air Force of the North Caucasus Military District on March 27, 1944 at the disposal of the Air Force Commander of the Kharkov Military District to the airfield of the town of Lebedin. From April 1, became a member of the 5th reserve aviation brigade of the Air Force of the Kharkov Military District. Since May, he began to distill fighters La-5 and La-7 into the army. In October 1944, he mastered the Yak-9. As part of the 5th Reserve Aviation Brigade, it was until August 22, 1945 [1] .

Post-war regiment history

After the war, the regiment continued to be part of the 5th reserve air brigade of the Kharkiv Military District air force. On August 23, the regiment in the air force of the Kiev Military District. In connection with the post-war reduction of the armed forces on January 15, 1946, the regiment was disbanded as part of the Air Force of the Kiev Military District [1] [4] .
