Scientific Contribution
Since 1967, Zainolla Samashev participated in archaeological expeditions, collecting materials on the ancient history of Kazakhstan. At first, with his participation, and since the 1980s and under his leadership, monuments of the Neolithic , Bronze , Early Iron , Saka culture and cultures of the early Middle Ages ( cave paintings , sites , settlements , burial grounds , mounds ) were studied. Many of them have been scientifically researched and described for the first time. The volume and quality of materials collected during these expeditions and put into scientific circulation attracted the attention of archaeologists and orientalists.
The contribution of Z. S. Samashev to the study of petroglyphs of Kazakhstan is especially noticeable. In his works, both disparate data available on this issue before him and extensive data collected with his participation were collected and academically considered. Thanks to the numerous publications of Samashev, the study of cave paintings of Central Asia received a significant surge of scientific interest and reached a new level of security. Later publications by Kazakh and sometimes foreign scholars on graphic archeology in Kazakhstan, as a rule, contain references to his works.
In 2001, Z. S. Samashev was awarded the Tarlan Prize of the highest (platinum) category for his contribution to the study of Berel burial mounds and the discovery of a new method for preserving objects from wood obtained during archaeological excavations. Based on the results of the Berel expeditions led by him, the government decided to create the Berel State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Also, according to the results of excavations in the area of the ancient capital of the Nogai horde, Saraichik , and the Boraldai mounds near Almaty, state "archaeological parks" will be formed [3] .
Z.S. Samashev is a scientific expert on the ancient history of Kazakhstan, a member of the editorial board of the journal "Kazakh tarikhs" ("History of Kazakhstan") and the Supervisory Board of the state program "Cultural Heritage".
