Geography
The area is located in the north-eastern part of Essex County , bordered by Suffolk County, overlooks the coast of the North Sea .
History
The area was formed on April 1, 1974 as a result of the merger of Borough Harwich , urban areas ( English Urban district ), Brightlingsi , Clacton , Frinton and Walton and rural area ( English Rural District ) Tendring .

The district includes eight cities:

- Dovercourt
- Clacton-on-Sea
- Manningtree
- Walton-on-the-nays
- Frinton-on-sea
- Harwich
- Holland on sea
and 24 communities ( English civil parish ).
