Story
Lam Lok (Simon Yam) stands at the head of the Hong Kong triad " Washinvo ". Approaching regular elections held every two years. Locke is trying to achieve re-election, which is impossible according to existing traditions. Jimmy Lee (Louis Koo) - a high-ranking member of the clan, is trying to break with criminals to legally do business in mainland China. However, representatives of the local public security bureau caught him trying to give a large bribe to a building department official. The chief of the bureau, to whom everyone addresses like Mr. Xi (Yun Yu), is ready to close his eyes to this if Jimmy will run for the seat of the head of Vashinvo. He is forced to offer his candidacy to the elders. Besides him, the other godchildren of Lam Lok, Jet ( Nick Chun Kafai ) and Kun (Gordon Lam), declare their intention to be elected.
Events occur with increasing speed. Lock offers Kunu to refuse to participate in elections and join forces against other candidates. Kuhn does not agree, but, nevertheless, helps to eliminate the chief financial manager Jimmy - he is hammered in the coffin alive. Locke decides to hide the illegal accounting statements and the Dragon Head wand is a formal symbol of the power of the Vashinvo clan. In addition, he self-kills Uncle Teng Wai (Von Tin-lam), one of the elders who resolutely opposed Lok's attempts to be re-elected again contrary to traditions. Locke turns to Jet and convinces him to kill Jimmy. For a variety of reasons, the attempt is foiled. Meanwhile, in mainland China, Mr. So (Eddie Chun Siu-fi), one of Jimmy’s main allies, was arrested for illegal tote, which significantly reduces the chances of victory for the latter. In the face of growing internal war, Jimmy is forced to kidnap Lok's closest aides. By brutal psychological and physical torture and, at the same time, bribery, he entices survivors to his side. Kuhn is exposed in an attempt to assassinate financial manager Jimmy (who, after all, can be saved). This argument is the last to influence the decision of the elders: Jimmy is chosen as the head of the clan.
Mr Xi, chief of the regional public security bureau, welcomes the newly elected godfather in one of the provinces of the mainland of China, informs him of the state approval of all projects announced by him earlier and, unexpectedly, Jimmy hands the Dragon Head to him. It turns out that the power structures of China have enough power already in Hong Kong. They are able to cancel the triad's longstanding traditions and force Jimmy to become its head on a permanent basis with the transfer of power by kinship, from father to son. Jimmy is depressed, he believed after a two-year period to leave the criminal community for the sake of family and legal business. He meets his wife, who was sent to a safe place before the election. She tells her husband that she is pregnant and soon they will have a boy. Jimmy with horror represents the fate that is prepared for his unborn child.

Artistic features and criticism
A critic of the Boston Globe , viewing both parts of the gangster drama, places it somewhere between Clan Soprano and Dilbert and describes it as “a grim story about people seeking what they want, but receiving what they deserve”. He notes that if the first part monitors the power struggle between two men, for whom she is everything, then in the second film a disturbing political context appears when officials of the People’s Republic of China intervene in this confrontation. They are friendly and smiling, but expressively flex their muscles [2] . The Washington Post observer also mentions the similarity of the tape with the Soprano Clan and justifies this comparison. First, in his opinion, the two parts of the “Elections” cannot be compared with the “ Godfather, ” as a number of publications do. The Coppola gangster saga in a certain way romanticized his heroes: they existed in the mythical, picturesque lighting, each had some kind of inner sense of classicism and high class. The Clan Soprano, like the Elections, on the contrary avoids spectacular locations, does not take place in expensive clubs or penthouses, on yachts or in fancy brothels. Here the viewer is in the workplace of the gangsters - in the outbuildings of restaurants, in warehouses, in cars. There is not a lot of shooting, the gun is rejected in favor of a baton or a knife. And even knives are not objects of fetish, this is a common kitchenware, stabbed and thrown away [3] . The Seattle Times draws attention to the great similarity of Jimmy with Costello, the hero of Alain Delon from the film " Samurai " - "a beautiful and laconic anti-hero, whose ability to violence especially terrifies." At the same time, the same author just above calls Jimmy a simple police informant ( English informant , the translation option is a scammer), who acts on instructions from the security agency solely for his commercial benefit [4] .
