Biography
The ninth child in the family. From time to time I traveled to Split to take lessons from composer Josip Hatze. In 1896-1910 he worked as a school teacher. In the years 1910-1912 he studied at the Prague Conservatory with Vitezslav Novak , Karel Steker and in the composition class. In the years 1918-1922 - teacher of the Teachers' Seminary. Founder and in 1922-1940 - professor of the Zagreb Academy of Music . Collector and researcher of Croatian folk music. He was engaged in the processing of folk songs, wrote music for the theater, church music. The author of 13 operas (1917-1948), 5 ballets (1925-1952) and 8 program symphonies (1937-1954). He published a number of books and articles on folklore, in particular, a collection of materials about folk life and customs (1915).
