Yaya Jamme was re-elected, receiving 67% of the vote, [1] with a turnout of 59%. Darboe, who finished second with 27% of the vote, did not agree with the official results, saying that the elections were not free and fair and that there were numerous irregularities during the election. [3]
Voting
Due to the high level of illiteracy in the country, voting in most Gambia polling stations since 1965 has been conducted using glass balls . Voters throw transparent glass balls into special metal drums, which are painted in the color corresponding to one or another candidate. Thanks to the special bell in the drum, members of the election commission hear if someone votes more than once. To avoid confusion with bicycle calls, bicycles are prohibited around polling stations. After voting, voters lower their finger in indelible ink. [four]
