New Jersey Gambling Regulatory Department

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) is a division of the Department of Justice and Public Security. The Division’s primary function is to monitor and enforce gambling laws when interacting with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission (NJCCC).

Creation History

The New Jersey Gambling Regulatory Division was formed in 1977. NJDGE's business is law enforcement. Established as a body to “support” the work of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, the Division focuses primarily on enforcement proceedings.

The mission of The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement is to protect the public interest through:

  • maintaining the legitimacy and vitality of the gambling industry.
  • providing a security system that excludes the possibility of organized crime participating in the gambling business.

The entire composition of NJDGE's gambling regulation in New Jersey, with the exception of the leader, is determined by the Department of Justice and Public Security. The Director of the Department is appointed by the Governor of the State with the approval and approval of the Senate. Only an assistant district attorney may hold a position. Service life is determined by the governor.

Powers of The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement

The powers of the Department extend to control over the issuance of licenses and compliance with licensing requirements, conducting specialized inspections and investigations, audits, criminal, regulatory investigations.

There are 4 main activities of NJDGE:

  • in the field of licensing. The department is engaged in inspections and investigations aimed at confirming the authenticity of the data submitted by license applicants. Activities are carried out at the request of the NJCCC (Game Control Commission).
  • in the field of regulatory enforcement proceedings. This area includes ensuring compliance with legislative provisions, exercising accounting control, fulfilling requirements to limit access to casinos to minors, handling complaints, and other actions of a similar nature.
  • in the industry of monitoring the activities of gambling establishments. NJDGE investigators provide round-the-clock control of the casino, being present directly in the institutions. In case of violation of legislative requirements, the Department staff transmit the relevant information to law enforcement authorities to initiate

administrative, criminal proceedings.

  • in the technical field. The Bureau provides integrity control of electronic gaming equipment, including gaming machines, conducts testing, assesses for compliance with the performance indicators of devices with regulatory requirements. At the same time, proper accounting of electronic gambling equipment is ensured. Installing devices is allowed only after they have been tested and approved by the New Jersey Gambling Regulatory Department.
