The abdomen of the female is pentagonal, with three wide white transverse stripes.
In New Guinea, it is found on the border of forests on mountain slopes or even on coastal cliffs. A web with cruciform stabilization , often there is only one diagonal strip or no stabilization at all. The female spider sits in the center of the web, when it is disturbed, falls to the ground and bends its legs to the body. In this case, the abdominal side instantly darkens due to contraction of light cells and merges with the surrounding soil.
The species is common on the Malay Peninsula, the islands of Indonesia, the island of New Guinea .
Subspecies A. r. sumatrana is found on the island of Sumatra .
