Romania's Salvation Union ( rum. Uniunea Salvați România; USR ) is a Romanian parliamentary political party formed in 2016 after success in the local elections of the Bucharest Salvation Union ( rum. Uniunea Salvați Bucureștiul, USB ). After officially registering as a political party in 2016, on August 21, 2016, it merged with the Salvation Union of Bucharest and the Codle Union ( rum. Uniunea pentru Codlea ). [one]

History
July 1, 2015, President of the Association for the Salvation of Bucharest ( rum. Asociaţiei Salvaţi Bucureştiul ) Nikushor Dan , announced the creation of the Union of Salvation of Bucharest. [3] Among the tasks of the new organization, the preservation of the historical development of the city, improving governance, protecting the rights of citizens was declared. [3]
On February 23, 2016, Nikushor Dan published his program on Facebook in the mayoral elections of Bucharest on Facebook . [4] Dan, in mayoral elections, and the Union, in city council elections, took second place. On the evening of June 5, the day of local elections, Dan announced his intention to register the nationwide party, the Salvation Union of Romania. [one]
On August 21, 2016, the Salvation Union of Romania, the Salvation Union of Bucharest and the Codle Union merged into a single party to jointly participate in the 2016 parliamentary elections. [one]
Elections
The first elections in the history of the new party were the local elections in Bucharest. Union leader Nikushor Dan took second place in the mayoral election of the Romanian capital, gaining 175,119 votes (30.52%). In the elections to the city council, the Union also finished in second place, gaining about 25% of the vote and winning 15 out of 55 seats.
The next election in which the party took part was the campaign to elect a new composition of the Romanian parliament in December 2016. According to polls, the party could receive from 7 to 15% of the vote. [5] According to the election results, the Romanian Salvation Union received 629,375 votes (8.92%) and 625,154 votes (8.87%) in the Senate elections, becoming the third most popular party in the country, skipping ahead Social Democrats and National Liberals .
