Botanical description
]
Evergreen shrub 1.0-1.5 m high. Young shoots are covered with glands.
The leaves are elliptical, 6-10 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, rounded at the end, wedge-shaped at the base, naked above, with well-marked venation, thickly covered with scales from below.
Flowers 4-9, funnel-shaped, about 3 cm in diameter, naked on the outside, purple-pink, or white. 10 stamens , their threads at the base covered with hairs.
It blooms in May - June [2] .
In culture
In a culture known since 1915.
Introduced in Latvia in 1958. Fully winter hardy. Cultivated in Riga, Jurmala, Tukums, Tulsa and other places [2] .
It withstands temperature reductions up to −26 ° С [3] .
