On November 20, 1916 , the grand opening of the new plant of the Universal Electricity Company took place. From December 20, 1917 , it was named Electrosila No. 1 .

In the late 1920s, VEF , the most famous Latvian company in the 20th century, was housed in the shops of the former Union, in Riga. [3]
