Balmann Werner

He graduated from the University of Bonn . In 1976 he defended his diploma. In 1979 he defended his thesis under the direction of Wilhelm Klingenberg on the topic “Some new results on manifolds of nonpositive curvature”. He defended habilitation in 1984. In 1980/81 he worked at the University of Pennsylvania . Since 1984, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland. In 1986 he worked in Bonn. In 1987 at the University of Zurich . In 1989, he headed the Department of Differential Geometry at the University of Bonn, where he still teaches. Since 2004, member of the Council of the Mathematical Institute of Oberwolfach . Since 2007, he has been working as a director at the Max Planck Institute of Mathematics . Since 2009, he has been the coordinator of the ^[3] and a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Higher Research . ^[4] .

• In 1986, he was a guest speaker at the Berkeley International Congress of Mathematicians . I read a report on the topic "Varieties of non-positive sectional curvature and manifolds without conjugate points."
• Since 2007, is a member of Leopoldina ^[5] .
