Giovanni II ( Italian: Giovanni II del Monferrato ; February 5, 1321 - March 19, 1372 ) - Marquis of Monferrat from 1338 from the Paleologue dynasty, commander.

The son of the Marquis Theodoro I and his co-ruler in 1336–1338.
By any means I tried to expand my domain.
In 1339 (October 9) he was appointed Governor of Asti . In 1344, together with the Duke of Savoy, he divided the former Margrave of Ivrea. On April 22, 1345, together with Otton of Braunschweig, at the Battle of Gamenario, he defeated the forces of Reform d'Angu, the Seneschal of the Sicilian Queen in her Piedmont possessions.
June 19, 1347 captured Valenza . In July of the same year, under a contract with Lukino Visconti, he received a sconce , in 1348 - Cuneo .
In 1355, he accompanied the emperor Karl of Luxembourg on his trip to Italy for the coronation, and received the title of imperial vicar.
Under the control of Giovanni II were Kerasco , Novara (1355-1358), Asti (1356-1378), Alba (1356-1344) and Pavia (1357-1359) (in 1358 the emperor handed it over to Novara Visconti, and left Asti behind Monferrath).
In 1358 (September 4) in Montpellier, with the consent of the emperor, married Isabella - the titular queen of Mallorca.
In 1362, Pope Urban V paid Margrave Giovanni II 60 thousand gold florins on the condition that his troops would not rob the papal possessions.
In 1364, Giovanni II made peace with Visconti, according to which he refused Pavia, but left Asti behind him.
In 1369, for 26 thousand florins, he bought the former possessions of the Anjou house - Bra, Kerasco, Mondovi, Centallo, Demonte and Cuneo.
Giovanni II died in 1372. Before his death, he appointed Otto of Braunschweig and Amadeus VI of Savoy as the guardians of his children.
Family
Giovanni II was married twice. The first wife (from 1337) Cecile de Commenges was 20 years older than him. She until death, which followed in 1354, is referred to in documents as the Marquise of Monferrat. There were no children in this marriage.
