History
The hospital was originally founded in 1986 and named after the industrialist and Zionist leader Sally Mayer.
After the Second Lebanon War, the need arose to build a fortified and protected building in the center of Rambam. For this, the option of building an ambulance building in the form of an underground 3-storey building in the territory previously used for parking was chosen.
Over this underground building, it was finally decided to build a new building, 9 floors high. This building, designed by architect Arad Sharon, became the main building of the Children's Hospital [2] . At the same time, the hospital was renamed Ruth Rapoport in honor of the wife of philanthropist Bruce Rappoport, who donated $ 80 million for this construction (in addition, $ 30 million was allocated by the state, and the remaining 70 million came from various other sources).
Despite the fact that the area of โโthe hospital premises has increased, the number of hospital beds has not increased. The hospitalโs reception area has tripled compared to the old building.
The renovated hospital building was opened in June 2014, and during the year the entire hospital was transferred from the old building to the new one [3] .
