Biography
Born August 30, 1925 in Porter Township , Midland, Michigan [1] in the family of C. Everett Foster and Alma Tippin . When his mother died of poliomyelitis , Cecil lived on various farms of his grandparents.
After graduating from Midland High School in 1943, enlisted in the army and began his brilliant military career as a pilot. While studying at a preflight school in San Antonio , Texas , he met his future wife Margaret Mary Frazer , whom he married on February 13, 1945 in San Antonio. [2] Not having time to participate in the Second World War , he served for 31 years in aviation, becoming a member of the Korean and Vietnamese wars.
During the Korean War, with the rank of captain, he flew an F-86 Saber , shooting down nine MiG-15s in one hundred sorties. He was shot down and captured in 1953. During the Vietnam War, he flew on the F-101 Voodoo and F-4 Phantom , making 165 sorties.
Died July 5, 2016 at his home in Montana. The funeral service was held at St. Regis Community Bible Church . He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington . He had five sons, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. [2]
The Michigan's Own Military & Space Museum has an exposition dedicated to Cecil Foster, where his F-86 Saber is presented. On Memorial Day 1997, he was the Honorary Marshal of the Midland Parade. [2]
