Sommen ( Swede. Sommen ) - a lake in southern Sweden . Located in the historical province of Ostergotland in the historical region of Götaland, on the border with the province of Smoland , 40 km east of Lake Vettern , the second largest of the Swedish lakes. The nearest town is Transos .

The area of Lake Sommen is 132 km², the maximum depth is about 60 m. The length of the coastline is about 449 km.
The lake is filled with clear transparent water, in the eastern part of the lake with visibility to a depth of 9-11 m, which makes Sommen one of Sweden's largest transparent lakes.
In Sommen, fish such as Arctic char , whitefish, trout and European vendace are widespread. Osprey nests abundantly on the shores of the lake.
For a long period of time, steamers sailed on Sommen, some of them are still in operation.
There are 365 islands on Sommene. However, their number is constantly changing within 350.
Legend has it that the lake originated in antiquity. The local landlord, who owned the “Sommakoa” cow, tried to calm her down and tied her to a fence. "Sommakoa" broke its chain, and so stamped its hoof into the ground so that the trace of its hoof was filled with water and a lake arose.
Every year in May, a Sommen Runt bike ride takes place around the lake.
