"BUT. Gutheil " is a Russian publishing company founded by A. B. Gutheil in Moscow in 1859 . Until 1917, first, along with the firms of Jurgenson (“ P. Jurgenson ”, founded in 1861), Bessel (“V.V. Bessel and Co.”, 1869), Zimmerman (1875), then Belyaev (“M. P. Belyaev in Leipzig ", 1885), and Kusevitsky (" Russian Music Publishing House ", 1909) was one of the largest music publishing houses in Russia. She didn’t have her own noteprinting. The office and the first music store were located in Moscow on Kuznetsky Most , 10 in Beckers House, later called the House of Juncker .

History
1859-1882
The family of A. B. Gutheyl (1818-1882) moved to Russia from Frankfurt am Main in 1853, and in 1859 he founded the music publishing company A. in Moscow. Gutheil " [2] . From 1861 he was a commission agent of the Imperial Theaters , in 1876 he received the title of Supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty and the hereditary “ Honorary Citizen of Moscow ”.
Music Publishing House “A. Gutheil ”did not have its own noteprinting , therefore, its activities were carried out jointly with the publishing house of M. I. Bernard , as well as with the engraver of music boards and music notepad S. P. Kondratiev [3] . Since 1870, for two years, the company has published a monthly "Music Journal".
1882-1914
After the death of A. B. Gutheil in 1882, the company was inherited by his eldest son, K. A. Gutheil (1851-1921), who was one of the directors of the Moscow Philharmonic Society . In 1886, K. A. Gutheil significantly expanded the enterprise of his father, acquiring the publishing house of F. T. Stellovsky . As a result, the company A. Gutheil ”passed the ownership of the music boards of 8 publishers: I. D. Gerstenberg , I. K. Pez, Clover,“ L. Snegirev and C. ”, P. I. Gurskalin , V. D. Denotkin, F. T. Stellovsky [4 ] . The company began to specialize in publishing opera claviers by Russian and Western European composers and became one of the largest music publishers in pre-revolutionary Russia [2] . From Stellovsky to K. A. Gutheyl, the copyrights to the publication of works (mainly operas) by M. I. Glinka , A. S. Dargomyzhsky , A. N. Verstovsky , A. N. Serov passed . The company published opera claviers by A. S. Arensky , S. Gounod , J. Meyerbeer , J. Verdi and other composers. At the same time, the publishing house published part of the romances and piano plays by M. A. Balakirev , a collection of romances by A. E. Varlamov and A. L. Gurilev , and other authors [2] . Publisher "A. Gutheil ”became the first publisher of the works of S. V. Rachmaninov and subsequently released most of his works.
Notation publishing flourished - in 1903, Carl Gutheil moved to a chic mansion , still called by his name.
Since the founding of the company, 12,000 names have been published [2] . In addition to its own store in Moscow, publications were sold in St. Petersburg at A. Johansen on Nevsky Prospekt , house 44, and in Kiev at Idzikovsky .
1914-1938
In 1914, after the outbreak of World War I, K. A. Gutheil sold the company to the owners of the Russian Music Publishing House , Natalia and Sergey Kusevitsky [2] . The Kusevitsky couple decided not to change the name of the acquired publishing house. Since 1920, the activities of the Russian Music Publishing House have been carried out mainly in Paris , where under the brand name of the company A. Gutheil ”, many works of S. S. Prokofiev were published abroad (1918-1936). In 1938, after the acquisition of the Russian Music Publishing House by the British publishing house Boosey & Hawkes , A. Gutheil ”ceased to exist [5] .
