Biography

Mikhail Guryev was born on November 4, 1861 in the Orenburg province in a Cossack family. Information about the place of his birth is different: according to some sources, he was born in the village of Nizhneuvelskaya of the third military department of the Orenburg Cossack army , according to others - in the village of Orenburg first military department of the same army. Mikhail graduated from the Orenburg military gymnasium, and then enrolled at the Orenburg Cossack Cadet School , from which he was graduated in the second category [1] .

In 1878, Guryev began serving in the Russian Imperial Army . He received the rank of cornet in December 1881, became a centurion by mid-December 1884, and became a substitute in late October 1890. Mikhail Grigoryevich rose to the rank of Yesaul with the wording “for distinction” in November 1891, and the army foreman in February 1899. On October 7, 1904, Guryev became a colonel “for military distinctions” [1] [2] - along with him, the future general George Bychkov (father of the Civil War participant, Colonel Alexei Bychkov ) and the future St. George cavalier received colonel epaulettes for participation in the Russo-Japanese war who also later became major general, Nikolai Volzhin [3] .

In 1891, Mikhail Guryev served as the head of the convoy when traveling through the Orenburg Cossack army of the heir, Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich - the future emperor of All-Russian Nicholas II . He was awarded gold cufflinks with precious stones and a photograph of the young prince [1] . In September of the same year, Mikhail Grigoryevich changed his place of residence: he moved from the village of Nizhneuvelskaya to the village of Orenburg. From 1892 to 1894 he served in the Orenburg 5th Cossack Regiment. April 16, 1904 Guryev took the post of commander of the Orenburg 11th Cossack Regiment - remained in this post until 1905 [4] .

Mikhail Grigoryevich became a participant in the conflict in the Far East , during which he was awarded several orders [1] . On November 7, 1904, he entered the “deputation” of Cossacks, who personally congratulated “His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief” Alexei Kuropatkin on his election to the Orenburg Cossacks of honor. In addition to Guryev, the group of congratulators included General Mitrofan Grekov , Colonel Andrei Nikolaev , Colonel Bychkov, Army foreman Volzhin, Yesaul Pastukhov, Podesaul Serov, Fadeyev, corral Gorbunov, as well as three “ lower ranks ” from the first, tenth, eleventh and twelfth of Cossacks . The Commander-in-Chief, who expressed "joy in merging with the Orenburg army," personally handed out to the Cossacks the awards they received: St. George’s weapons to Grekov, Nikolaev, Bychkov and Volzhin; Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree - Guryev and Fadeev [5] .

In March 1906, Guryev was appointed commander of the Orenburg 4th Cossack Regiment. Since May 1906, he commanded the 5th Regiment. Mikhail Grigorievich was "fired from his post" with a uniform and pension in December 1908 [1] .
