Biography

Andrey Semenov was born on December 13, 1924 in the village of Mikhailovka (now - Yarkovsky district of the Tyumen region ). From early childhood he helped his parents in agricultural work, from the fifth to the seventh grade, he went to school for 12 km, on foot and on skis. After graduating from school, he worked first on the collective farm, then in the forestry.

In 1942 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army , served in Sverdlovsk in the 239th Regiment of the escort troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the 39th Guards Motorized Rifle Division . In 1943 he graduated from the school of snipers and in May-June he fought on the front of the Great Patriotic War , destroyed four Germans.

He began to actively engage in ski racing during the war in 1944. He achieved the first serious success in the 1948 season, when he won the troop race in the 18 km individual race and won the silver medal at a distance of 50 km. In the period 1951-1954 he studied at the fire-technical school, was promoted to lieutenant. After demobilization, he worked as a mechanic at the Sverdlovsk Transport Engineering Plant No. 50 .

In 1952, Semenov joined the main team of the Dynamo sports society team and attended the USSR Championship in Sverdlovsk , from where he brought the bronze medal award won in the 4 × 10 km relay program - he was named Master of Sports at the end of the season. Two years later, at the All-Union Championship in Zlatoust, along with other Dynamo skiers won the relay. In the 1955 USSR Championship, he was the best in the individual 30 km race, and also received bronze medals in the 18 km race and 30 km patrols. The last time showed any significant result at the All-Union level in the season of 1956, when at the next national championship in Sverdlovsk in the Sverdlovsk Dynamo won the gold medal in the patrol race and took the bronze in the races of 15 and 50 km. He is the sevenfold champion of the RSFSR , for outstanding sporting achievements awarded the title " Honorary Master of Sports of the USSR ."

After completing his sports career, he took up coaching activities, in particular, he coached young skiers at the Sverdlovsk Junior Sports School. In 1982, he was employed by a mold setter at the Sverdlovsk instrument-making plant.
