Competitions were held in two qualification groups on July 6, 2016. 31 participants entered the sector. Failed to get into the main competition, one of the favorites Tero Pitkamäki and Ari Mannio from Finland.

Final
The main competitions in men's javelin throwing were held on July 7, 2016. European champion among juniors Sigismund Sirmais won the first major victory at the adult level, in the fifth attempt, setting a personal record of 86.66 m. The current European champion Finn Antti Ruuskanen in qualification had a result 1.5 meters further, but in the final he made only four throws. the best of which (82.44 m) was enough to win a bronze medal [2] .
