Creation History
The history of recording this album began in 1989 when filmmaker Sergei Debizhev , an old friend of Boris Grebenshchikov , asked him to write music for his new film, Golden Dream . At the same time, Debizhev, absolutely trusting Boris, gave him a complete carte blanche, and the Aquarium was completely free in the instruments, manner, texture of music, in its quantity and style. Fantasy BG , in his words, in this direction was completely uninhibited. The themes of the upcoming album were invented by him on his way to the studio. And so the recording took place, which a few years later was published under the name “Bardo. Russian-Abyssinian Orchestra. ”
The first part of the album was completed in 1989 , the second part - at the beginning of the 90th .
All the songs included in the Bardo album were written in St. Petersburg - first, when the Aquarium worked for Sergei Debizhev , in the Radio House, then on the basis of the group - in the communication center. The texts that are now causing critics questions were spontaneously born. BG had some rhythmic and phonetic notes, after all the music was recorded, he just got up to the microphone, listened to it two or three times, remembering phrases that appeared by themselves, and began to sing them. After two or three takes, a recording was made a few seconds ago of the texts born - the main and accompanying voices. Boris Grebenshchikov did not know for a long time what to do with this record — whether to release it, or not to release it; as a result, at the initiative of Andrey Gavrilov, the finishing touches to the album were put on in September and December 1996 and the album was released.
