In 1949, with the commencement of construction work at the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric complex, ten construction districts were formed to ensure work at various construction sites. In particular, the fifth construction district was based in the working village of Shluzy (hence the other name for this district as “Fifth” arose). The fifth construction district provided for the construction of a village of workers of the hydroelectric complex and port, the construction of temporary residential buildings and roads. Housing stock during the existence of the village consisted mostly of temporary housing of the barracks type. There were several shops in the village, there was a movie point, but the level of social infrastructure was extremely low, and there was no administration in the village.

Since 1953, after the construction of the waterworks was completed, the residents of the village of Shluzy began to be resettled in the construction operational village (Volgodonsk) and the working village Novo-Solenovsky . Residential barracks were demolished, industrial bases and warehouses were built in their place. Later, cottage plots were formed on the site of the former village. In the late 50s, the territory of the former village of Shluzy became part of the city of Volgodonsk. Currently, in the territory of the former village, there are warehouse and production bases of various organizations, as well as horticultural partnerships .

The village of Shluzy is the final stop of the city bus routes No. 4, 4a, 12, 28, 29, 29a, 23, 23a, 25, 52 and 51. Trolleybus routes No. 3 and 3a also pass through the village.

Gateway No. 14 of the Volga-Don Shipping Canal, the chamber and the head of the gateway are made in the "Stalin Empire" .
