Biography
Born in 1917 in Nizhny Novgorod.
Initially, he studied at the theater and music studio at the Moscow Theater of the Revolution (in 1936-1938). In 1940-1950 he worked as an actor in the theater of the Primorsky Military District in the city of Voroshilov (now Ussuriysk ).
Then Isaac Yakovlevich worked in the Perm Drama Theater (1950-1958). This was the most fruitful period of his work - on the stage of the theater, Castrel performed about 40 diverse roles.
The next period of I. Ya. Castrel’s work is connected with the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya (1958-1992), where from a large list of his roles stand out: Marshal Berthier ( F. Bruckner , “Napoleon I”), Yakovlev ( M. Gorky , “Fake Coin”), Alfieri ( A. Miller , “View from the Bridge”), Islaev ( I. Turgenev , “A Month in the Village”), Mayor ( F. Durrenmatt , “Visit of the Lady”), Stalin ( K. Simonov , “Soldiers are not born”). The professional activity of I. Ya. Castrel on stage was 52 years. Also acted in films.
He died in 2000 in Moscow. The urn with the ashes of the actor is buried in the niche of the “old” columbarium [1] of the Vvedensky cemetery [2] .
He was awarded government medals. For playing the role of Hamlet, he was awarded the 1st degree Diploma of the Ministry of Culture and the All-Union Theater Society. For the creation of highly artistic images on stage, he received about 30 departmental thanks.
