Francois Gabart ( French: François Gabart ; born 1983 ) is a French professional yachtsman [1] who won the 2013 Vendée Globe round-the-world regatta, covering a distance of over 40,000 km in record time - 78 days 2 hours 16 minutes 40 seconds [2] [3] . He also holds the record for a single daily sailing trip of 785 miles [4] .

Biography
Born March 23, 1983 in the city of Saint-Michel, Charente department, France.
Mother worked in a court in Angouleme . Father, a dentist, led the boy to sailing , where Francois began with the Optimist yacht class (used to teach children the basics of sailing). In 1989, his parents took a vacation and went on a trip with the whole family on the yacht "Pesk Avel" . On this journey to the United States , their son developed a taste for boat trips on a yacht.
He graduated from the Institut national des sciences appliquées de Lyon with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2007. He is engaged in research in high performance sports in the field of yachts. In 2008, he became a member of the Skipper Macif program . For three years, Intel has collaborated with a French yachtsman, helping him to design one of the fastest yachts in the world, as well as to improve its control system [5] .
Francois Gabard currently lives in the city of La Forêt-Fouesnant of the Finister department. Has a son Hugo from his wife Henrietta (lives in Norway ), with whom he divorced. In 2016, Gabar was a commentator on the 2016 Olympic Games sailing competitions for the French television company France Télévisions [6] .
In 2013, for his victory in the regatta, Vendée Globe was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic (cavalier), which he received from the hands of the President of France [7] .
On December 17, 2017, the French yachtsman Francois Gabard set a new record for a single circumnavigation of the Macif sailing trimaran : 42 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 35 seconds.
