Game career

A native of Buenos Aires, Mendes began his career at the Veles Sarsfield Club. He first made his debut at the top level on July 24, 1994 against Deportivo Espanyol at the age of only 17 years. During his time at the club, Veles Sarsfield experienced his longest period of success in history, becoming the league champion three times and winning five other international tournaments. Mendes has been the undisputed player of the main team for his last six years at the club.

In January 2002, Mendes moved to Spain to play for Celta in La Liga , during the heyday of the Galician team. For 4 and a half years there he spent extremely few games (maximum 16 games in 2004-05 at the second level ). In total for Celta, he played 69 games in various competitions. [one]

In 2006, Mendes returned to his country, moving to San Lorenzo de Almagro and managing to help him win Clausura 2007, the club’s fourth league title. However, during 2008, he took part in only a few matches, mainly due to permanent injuries. He was then transferred to Club Atlético Banfield before the 2009–10 season and was a key member of the team that won 2009 Aperture , appearing in all 19 matches.

December 13, 2009 the team celebrated its first success at the top level. Shortly thereafter, Mendes announced his retirement from football at the age of 32.

Coaching career

April 4, 2010 Mendes returned to San Lorenzo as and. about. head coach after the resignation of Diego Simeone . December 21 was his first working day at his other former Banfield team, where he replaced Julio Cesar Falcioni [2] .
