Career

Club

The Roberto started training at the sports school of the club “Portuguesa Desportos”. Having established himself as an opornik, he went to Europe, to Real Madrid. The transfer amount was 21 million euros.

Due to the great competition in the midfield, Ze Roberto often sat on the bench, only occasionally stepping on the field. In total, he played 15 matches in Madrid (5 in the starting line), without scoring a single goal.

After a failed season in Europe, he went home to Flamengo. Due to problems with the head coach, he was put up for transfer. He was seriously interested in Milan and Leverkusen Bayer. The Brazilian made a choice in favor of the German club, signing a contract for 5 years. He commented on his transition:

I always wanted to visit Germany, and I do not want to make a choice in favor of the eminent club, so as not to repeat the mistake of 97 years. It will be easier for me to open up here.

After spending 113 matches (17 goals) at the club, he became a world-class star, and football giants such as Milan, Juventus, Bayern and Liverpool lined up in front of him. The Brazilian contract expired in June 2003, but the club management, knowing that he was not eager to renew it, set its price - 18 million euros. In March 2002, it became known that Bayern purchased the rights to a football player.

In Munich, he immediately entrenched in the base. He played as an attacking midfielder or winger. In August 2006, on loan, he transferred to the Brazilian Santos. The agreement was valid for 1 year. After renting, I went out a little on the field. In 2009, Ze Roberto announced that he wants to change the club.

In 2009 he moved to Hamburg, becoming the team's highest paid player. In the debut match, he scored the winning goal from a free kick.

On July 10, 2011, Ze Roberto signed a two-year contract with the Qatari club Al-Garafa [3] . On February 3, 2012, the Brazilian terminated the contract with the team due to dissatisfaction with the living conditions in Qatar [4] .

On May 5, 2012, Ze Roberto moved to Gremio [5] . In 2015, the 40-year-old football player signed a contract with Palmeiras, in which he became the champion of Brazil in 2016.

On November 26, 2017, Ze Roberto announced his retirement after a match on November 28 with the Botafogo club [6] .

Team

The Roberto has 84 matches and 6 goals for the Brazilian national team . In the summer of 2007, before the start of the America's Cup , he announced his retirement in the national team.
