The incident with the Boeing 727 in Tehran is an aircraft incident that occurred on Tuesday October 18, 2011 with a Boeing 727-286 of Iran Air company bound for landing at Imam Khomeini airport . After the front landing gear failed, the aircraft was redirected for boarding at Mehrabad Airport and made an emergency landing. All 113 people on board survived, the plane received minimal damage due to the skill of the pilot. The video of the moment of landing became an Internet meme [1] .

Aircraft
Boeing 727-286, with serial number 20946, took part in the first flight on June 24, 1974 . On July 9, 1974, the airliner was sold to Iran Air , where it received an EP-IRR tail number [2] .
Incident Description
The aircraft carried out the international flight IR 742 from Moscow ( Russia ) to Tehran ( Iran ), on board were 19 crew members and 94 passengers. Landing was to be made at the airport of Imam Khomeini . The weather was cloudless, visibility on the runway was over 10 kilometers. When approaching the airport at 15:20 local time, the crew did not receive a signal about the regular release of the front landing gear. The aircraft commander (FAC), Khushang Shahbazi, stopped landing maneuvers, and the crew tried to fix the problem on their own.
The measures were unsuccessful, and the PIC decided to send the board to another airport in Tehran - Mehrabad . The low span and visual inspection from the ground confirmed the fact that the front landing gear was absent. The PIC decided to make an emergency landing in Mehrabad, and at about 4:00 p.m. the crew landed the Boeing on the runway 29L. After touching the runway with the main landing gear, the crew managed to keep the bow from touching the strip for a long time and reduce the speed in this position. After touching the bow with concrete, Boeing remained on the runway and stopped quite quickly [3] . Passengers and crew were immediately evacuated, no one was injured. According to passengers, during landing, none of them experienced any unpleasant sensations, although the situation was generally nervous [4] .
A video of the landing of the EP-IRR without a front landing gear was posted on the Internet, and PIC Khushang Shahbazi was named a national hero by many Iranian and foreign media [1] [5] .
Consequences
FAC Khushang Shahbazi was suspended for two months and reinstated after the investigation was completed. He told the media that he had decided to make an emergency landing in Mehrabad so that the accident would pass by the country's main airport - Khomeini. According to Khushang Shahbazi, the leadership did not even say “thank you” to him [4] . The professionalism and endurance shown during the incident brought him nationwide popularity in Iran [5] .
The side of the EP-IRR was repaired and continued to operate until 2013 , after which it was put into storage [2] .
