Biography

Born in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semipalatinsk region .

In 1913 he graduated from the Natural Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kazan University . He was a student of such famous botanists as A. Ya. Gordyagin and B. A. Keller [1] . He was left at the university to prepare for a professorship.

In 1915 he moved to Semipalatinsk . In 1919 - 1924 he taught botany at the Semipalatinsk Institute of Public Education, at the same time worked as a geobotanist in the Semipalatinsk land department.

In 1924 - 1925 he was a teacher at the Semipalatinsk Pedagogical College and a geobotanist.

In 1930 - 1934 he was an assistant professor at the Omsk Dairy Institute, in which he headed the Department of Botany [2] .

From 1934 to 1957 , for 23 years - head of the Department of Plant Morphology and Systematics of Perm University . Since 1934 - professor.

In 1935, in the aggregate of work without defending a dissertation, he was awarded the degree of candidate of biological sciences .

Scientific work

Working in Siberia and Kazakhstan , V. A. Kruger was interested in the vegetation of saline soils [3] .

He worked vigorously in the Semipalatinsk department of the Russian Geographical Society (1915–1916); on behalf of the department, he conducted geobotanical and limnological studies on Gorkoe Lake of the Zmeinogorsk district of Tomsk province , and also participated in a number of botanical trips in the Semipalatinsk region and collected an extensive herbarium.

From 1930 to 1932 he worked as an assistant to the regional leader of the Goszemtrest expeditions in Western Siberia; He personally carried out geobotpnical studies of the Aleisk state farm.

During the period from 1919 to 1924 he conducted geobotanical studies: the southern part of Karkaraly district (Kent mountains - the northern shore of Lake Balkhash ); surroundings of the Semipalatinsk experimental field; the vicinity of Semipalatinsk (stationary environmental observations).

From the Kazakh People’s Commissariat, he participated in an expedition to Altai (1924, Chingistay volost; the materials collected in this expedition were processed in the herbarium of Tomsk University by P.N. Krylov ; together with I.V. Larin, he participated in an expedition to Pavlodar district (1925).

In 1928, on the instructions of the Land Reclamation Department of the Siberian Land Administration, he led an expedition for geobotanical research of irrigated lands of the Minusinsk district (the Tuba and Sydy rivers in the Sayan Mountains ).

In 1929 he traveled to the Crimea and the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus to get acquainted with the subtropical flora ( Batumi and Nikitsky Botanical Gardens, Chakva ).

From 1930 to 1932 he also worked as an assistant to the regional leader of the Goszemtrest expeditions in Western Siberia ; He personally conducted geobotanical studies of the Aleisk state farm [4] .

After moving to Perm (1934) he took up the study of ( meteorological , phytoclimatic, hydrological , soil - geobotanical ) meadows of the Kama valley, devoting 20 years of his life to this.

On the instructions of the Hydrostroyproject, under the guidance of V. A. Krueger, studies were carried out related to the construction of the Kama hydroelectric power station near Perm [5] . They were supposed to characterize the soils and vegetation of the flood zone and flooding of the future reservoir, determine their area, give them an agricultural estimate and outline the forecast of the changes in soils and vegetation that can be expected in the flood zone [1] .

V.A. Kruger organized research at the Ust-Tuy and Lodein hospitals, describing soil-botanical and hydrological profiles across the Kama River valley. Employees and students (subsequently candidates of sciences) - M. M. Danilova, V. N. Shukhardin, A. P. Lebedeva, M. M. Storozheva, N. T. Ageeva took an active part in these studies. His students and graduate students were future professors - D. F. Fedyunkin, G. A. Glumov, V. V. Blagoveshchensky, I. A. Selivanov, A. M. Ovyosnov [6] . Together with the expedition staff, he compiled a series of geobotanical maps: the Chingistaysky expedition region, the Tuba and Sydy rivers region of the Minusinsky region , the Kama river and its tributaries on the stretch of the village of Levshino - Solikamsk , the collective farms area of Schuchye-Ozersky and Karagaysky district of the Molotov (Perm) region , the Molotov ( Perm) region) .
