Biography
The son of the Petrograd worker, the Red Guard. As a child, he was a member of one of the first pioneer detachments, since 1927 - a Komsomol member.
In 1930 he entered the Faculty of History of the Leningrad Institute of History, Philosophy and Linguistics , which he graduated in 1934. In 1934-1936 he worked at the Barnaul Teachers Institute . In 1936-1939 he studied at the graduate school of Leningrad University. After graduation, he was sent to work at the Pedagogical Institute of Engels . In August 1941 he returned to Leningrad , volunteered for the university militia unit. In the early months of the war, he delivered lectures in military units, on ships, and in hospitals. In April 1942 he was mobilized into the Red Army, he went from a soldier to a captain; was deputy. company commander for political affairs, head of a divisional party school. Since September 1943 - member of the CPSU (b) . After the war, before demobilization in 1948 he taught the history of the USSR at the Military Medical Academy. S. M. Kirov .
From 1948 until the end of his life he worked at Leningrad University (except 1952–1955, when he taught at the N.K. Krupskaya Leningrad Library Institute ). Since 1970, after defending his doctoral dissertation - professor. In 1976-1986 he was head of the Department of History of the Soviet Society of the History Department.
The scientific works of N. Ya. Ivanov are mainly devoted to the history of the October Revolution .
