Amateur career
He began his amateur career in February 1993. He won the first fight, then lost two in a row. This was followed by a series of victories.

Professional career
Debuted in March 1998 . In the debut fight, he knocked out in the first round of the undefeated American, Kelly Mays (5-0). He spent almost all the fights in his native Denmark.
On November 29, 2002, he won the vacant IBA World Champion title, winning by unanimous decision from the representative of South Africa, Dingaan Tobela (40-9-2).
On April 11, 2003, Kessler knocked out experienced Craig Cummings (51-4-1) and won the international WBC world title .
WBA World Title Fights
In November 2004, he defeated WBA super middleweight champion Manny Syaku [1] .
In June 2005, unexpectedly for everyone, he went to Australia to fight with a local fighter Anthony Mandine . Kessler won on points [2] .
In January 2006, Kessler in the 10th round knocked out Eric Lucas [3] .
Unification battle with Marcus Bayer
On October 14, 2006, the unifying battle between the two super middleweight champions took place - the WBA champion undefeated Mikkel Kessler and the WBC champion Marcus Bayer . At the end of the 3rd round, Kessler held the left hook and the right cross in the jaw. The German collapsed onto the canvas. He could not rise to the score 10. The referee recorded a knockout [4] .
Fight with Librado Andrade
In March 2006, in Denmark, the battle of two undefeated boxers took place - Mikkel Kessler and Mexican Librado Andrade . Kessler dominated the whole battle. The Mexican missed a lot of punches, and he often missed. At the end of the match, all the judges put the same crushing score of 120-108 in favor of Kessler. [5]
Unification fight with Joe Calzaghe
In November 2007, a unification fight in the 2nd middle weight took place between the long-playing WBO world champion Joe Calzaghe and the WBC and WBA world champion Mikkel Kessler. The more aggressive Calzaghe won on points. [6]
Reclaiming WBA World Title
On May 21, 2008, Mikkel knocked out an undefeated German boxer, Dmitry Sartison (22-0) in a fight for the vacant world title.
In October 2008, Kessler entered the ring against the German Danilo Heussler . In the middle of the 3rd round, the Dane conducted a series of crosses in the head. With the left cross in the jaw, he sent the German to the canvas. Hoisler did not have time to get on the count of 10. The referee recorded a knockout.
September 12, 2009 Mikkel won the WBA super middleweight title by defeating Venezuelan fighter Gusmyr Perdomo by technical knockout in the fourth round.
Super Six Tournament
Fight with Andre Ward
On November 21, 2009, as part of the Super Six World Boxing Classic 2 nd middleweight tournament, he had to fight American Andre Ward . Kessler was the leader of the second average weight, and the stakes on his victory were 1 to 2.2. The fight was stopped in round 11 due to a cut at Kessler after an unintentional header. Judge notes after 10 rounds led Ward. He was given the championship belt.
Fight with Carl Faucher I
On April 24, 2010, during the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament, Kessler met with WBC super middleweight champion Briton Carl Fochet and won Kessler in a very close duel. After the victory, the Dane refused to further participate in the tournament, citing damage to the retina. According to Mikkel, he earned this injury in a fight against Andre Ward. [7]
On June 4, 2011, former world champion Mikkel Kessler successfully returned to the ring, defeating Frenchman Mehdi Bouadla by technical knockout in the sixth round. At stake in this fight was the vacant WBO European super middleweight belt.
On May 19, 2012, Mikkel knocked out in the 4th round of the American, Allan Green [8] in the fight for the WBC Silver light heavyweight belt.
Third WBA World Title
Having defeated Briton Brian Magee by technical knockout in the 3rd round of December 8, Kessler won the vacant title of βregularβ WBA super middleweight champion.
May 25, 2013 in a spectacular match lost the title, losing on points in the UK, the local famous boxer, Carl Froch .
