Biography

Pre-war years

Born in February 1912 in the village of Ogar (now the community of Pechintsi in Vojvodina ). Originally from a teacher's family. He graduated from elementary school in his native village and gymnasium in Pancevo . He studied at the teacher training schools of Sombor and Subotica , taught at schools in the villages of Sremska Racha and Klenak . He supported the Communists, for which he was expelled to Macedonia to the border with Albania. He was a member of the Vuk Karadzic Teacher Cultural and Research Society, created by the Communists. In 1939, Neboisha with his wife Katarina, also a teacher, became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia and the secretary of the party cell. In 1940, he and his wife attended party courses in the Syrian-Bani, which were taught by Svetozar Vukmanovich . Veselin Maslesha also participated in the courses. During these courses, Neboisha led one of the groups. Since 1940, he lived in Belgrade , worked for the writer Getsa Kohn as a collector on a legal basis.

Partisan activity

Neboisha had served in the army by that time, graduated from the school of reserve officers and received the rank of lieutenant (lieutenant) of the reserve. After the April war, Nebojsa fled with his wife from Belgrade to the village of Klenak, and at the end of June arrived in аabac , where on June 25, 1941 he was included as an experienced officer in the military operational headquarters and was appointed commander of the future detachment. Soon he left Shabac and went to Shtitar together with the leaders of the partisan communist movement to form a detachment. On July 16, the Machwan partisan detachment was formed, and Nebojsha became its commander. Under his command, the Machwan detachment conducted successful military operations in the summer and fall of 1941. The first under his blows were the gendarmerie stations in the villages of Machva and Podrina, in August they attacked Machvanska Mitrovica and occupied two roads to Bogatich . During the rally, the partisans acquired a large number of weapons and ammunition. On August 25, 1941 , the Chetnik captain Dragoslav Rachich, who commanded the Tsersky Chetnik detachment, agreed with Nebojsha Erkovich on joint actions. The partisans took part in the battles for Šabac and Banja-Kovilyacha , liberating Banja-Kovilyacha, Bogatich, Loznitsa and Machvanska-Mitrovica. On September 26, at a meeting of the General Headquarters, Yerkovich proposed organizing the purchase of grain in the vicinity and quickly exporting it to the mountainous regions of Rachevina and then to Uzice . Local residents supported the initiative and transferred grain stocks to the partisans in order to leave the Germans without supplies.

First anti-partisan offensive and breakthrough to one's own

In September 1941, German troops launched an offensive on Uzice. The 342nd Wehrmacht Infantry Division clashed with the Machwan partisan detachment, and after stubborn battles, the detachment was forced to retreat south. After the fall of the Uzhitsky Republic in late November, the detachment found itself again in a difficult situation. At a meeting of the Headquarters of the detachment with a representative of the General Headquarters of the NGO in Serbia, Mirko Tomic , held on December 15, 1941 in the village of Dragodol, it was decided to return the detachment to its positions. Fighting with the battle to Machweh on Cera, by the end of December the partisans lost almost all of their commanding staff — squad headquarters, battalion headquarters, and many fighters. Only one company of the detachment left for the Valevsky partisan detachment .

The detachment for breaking through enemy positions was divided into small groups: all groups had to unite in the town of Kumovac na Ceru . In the group of Neboisha Erkovich there were eight more people: Dobroslav Radosavlevich , Radovan Vukovich , Aleksandar “Lala” Stankovic , Miodrag “Mika” Graor , Mimchilo “Mosha” Srnich and couriers of the headquarters Milenko Berich and Aleksandar “Alexa” Andrich . In the village of Bela-Reka at the foot of Cera, this group was housed in the house of Bozidar Radoichich , located on the edge of the village. On December 27, this group was forced to split into two more groups: four partisans remained with Erkovich - Andrich, Stankovich, Graor and Srnich.

Doom

On December 27, 1941, in the evening, Aleksa Andrich, having run out of the house, attracted the attention of the Letichevsky policemen . At 11 o’clock in the evening they surrounded the house where the partisans were hiding and grabbed Andrich, after which they opened fire on the house. All the partisans, not wanting to give up, committed suicide. Their bodies were taken to Шабabac, and the owner of the house, Radoichich, who was in the аaback prison camp, was shot.

Since August 1941, the wife of Neboisha, Katerina, has been a courier of the Shabatsky District Committee and the Headquarters of the Machwan Detachment. After the failure of the Chetniks and partisans attacked Šabac, she remained there to work underground, and then moved to Belgrade. Neboisha’s brother, Dushan, participated in the organization of the uprising in Uzice, commanded the Uzhitsky partisan detachment and died on November 29, 1941 in the battle for Kadinyachu .
