William Garden ( born William Garden ; November 5, 1918 - April 29, 2011 ) is a designer of yachts. He has created over 650 ship projects in his life, but mainly sailing yachts, including such as Mariner 36, Gulf 40, Formosa 51 and CT 41. The highest award holder of Canada is a member of the Order of Canada .

Born in Calgary , he moved with his parents to Seattle , Washington, USA at the age of ten. After graduation, he studied shipbuilding at Edison Technical School, which later became part of Seattle Central College . He worked at Andrew's Boat Company, and by the age of 24 he had designed more than 50 vessels.
In 1943 he was called up for military service, served at the US Navy shipyard in Adak , Alaska, and as he himself said:
| I was the only person in the army doing what I liked to do. |
Demobilized in the spring of 1946 with the rank of senior sergeant.
After receiving a license as a designer of marine vessels, he opened his engineering office in Washington. In the late 1960s, he moved to Canada, the city of Victoria , and, having acquired an island nearby, continued his work.
In 2006, he was awarded the Order of Canada in recognition of being “ an experienced naval architect and marine engineer .”
The Museum of America and the Sea has an exposition dedicated to William Garden.
