Adamek fell and immediately got up. The referee counted the knockdown. In the 10th round, Adamek struck a short right straight into Dawson's head, knocking him down, but he failed to develop the success of this attack and knock out his opponent. As a result, Dawson confidently outplayed Adamek on points and became the new champion. [1] [2] [3] [4]
In June 2007, Dawson met with a little-known and clearly passing opponent, Jesus Ruiz . In the 6th round, Dawson carried out a series of punches, one of which shocked Ruiz. Ruiz did not respond to the blows, and the referee stopped the fight. [5] [6] [7]
In September 2007, Dawson met with another little-known rival - Colombian Epifano Mendoza . Dawson dominated the whole battle. Toward the end of the 4th round, he pressed the enemy to the ropes and began to beat. The referee was tired of looking at it and he stopped the fight. [8] [9]
Fighting Glen Johnson
In April 2008, a fight took place between Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson . The fight turned out spectacular. Dawson worked number 2, moving a lot, and Johnson tried to catch up with him. Often the champion met the applicant, resulting in spectacular exchanges. At the end of the 10th round, Johnson got a counter right hook on the champion’s head. Dawson staggered but did not fall. Johnson rushed to finish him off. Dawson muttered immediately. The referee parted the boxers. Johnson again began to finish off the opponent. Dawson was able to hold out until the gong. At the end of the 12 rounds, all three judges gave the victory to Dawson with a score of 116-112. Hall met the decision with an unhappy rumble. In a post-match interview with Showtime, Glen Johnson said that Dawson was presented with a win, as he is a young promising boxer. [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16]
Fight Antonio Tarver I
In October 2008, a fight was fought between Chad Dawson and IBF light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver . For the sake of this battle, Dawson refused mandatory defense against Adrian Diaconu , for which he was stripped of the WBC light heavyweight title. Tarver was inferior to the enemy in speed. Tarver was uncharacteristically aggressive during the meeting, but the speed and advantage in strength allowed Dawson to look better in this meeting and win. Dawson inflicted most of his strikes in multi-hit series. At the beginning of the 12th round, Dawson hit a right hook in the head. Tarver could not resist, and somersaulted through the ring. The referee counted the knockdown. Tarver did not agree with him. At the end of the match, all the judges gave the victory to Dawson.
Fight Antonio Tarver II
In May 2009, a rematch took place between Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver . In the first fight of these boxers, held in October 2008 , Dawson outboxed Tarver following a 12-round standoff, taking away his champion title. The contract for that fight contained a clause on mandatory revenge in the event of Chad's victory. In the rematch, Dawson again managed to confidently defeat Tarver on points. Despite the fact that Antonio managed to provide more worthy resistance than in the first fight, Chad still confidently boxed his 40-year-old opponent with the decision of the judges. Specialists agreed that Tarver won.
Fighting Glen Johnson II
On November 7, 2009, a rematch took place between the IBO world champion and interim WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson . In the course of the battle, it turned out that both opponents approached this confrontation in excellent condition, and the 40-year-old Johnson, who, according to tradition, was constantly moving forward, tried to impose an exchange of blows to Dawson from the very first gong. But instead, Chad, moving from side to side, counterattacked with a jab, sometimes with a shock left or inserted side and uppercuts. Dawson was more accurate in his hits, and Johnson could not come up with something new in comparison with their previous duel. Despite this, the battle was again very equal. Chad looked good in the 6th and 11th rounds, while in all other moments the audience watched only Dawson's constant jabs.
Fight with Jean Pascal
In August 2010, Dawson entered the ring against the world light heavyweight champion according to WBC - Canadian Jean Pascal . The fight took place in Canada. Pascal staged a long-lasting attack with a large number of shots. In the 9th round, Dawson made a bet on the blow and was able to shock Pascal, but he could not get anything out of this situation. Chad made another attempt to knock out the opponent in the 11th round, and it seemed that he had good chances for this, until after one of the episodes there was an unintentional clash of heads, after which Dawson had a cut over his left eye that prevented him from continuing the battle. When scoring, it turned out that at that moment Pascal was the leader on the referee's notes, having won by a technical decision. Under the terms of the contract of battle, there was a clause on revenge, but Pascal had the right to an intermediate duel before that.
Fight with Adrian Diaconu
In May 2011, Chad Dawson first entered the ring after losing to Jean Pascal in August 2010 . The rival was the Romanian boxer Adrian Diaconu , who also met with Pascal in 2009, losing twice on points. Despite numerous attempts by an aggressive Romanian, Dawson managed to avoid danger thanks to excellent actions in defense, and the superiority in accuracy allowed Chad to win the battle by unanimous decision. The fight took place as part of a show organized by HBO , the main event of which was the 2nd fight of Jean Pascal - Bernard Hopkins . Defeating Deacon, Dawson was guaranteed the right to meet with the winner of the rematch Pascal and Hopkins.
Fight with Bernard Hopkins I
In October 2011, Dawson entered the ring against the 46-year-old world light heavyweight champion according to WBC Bernard Hopkins . The 1st round was held with a slight advantage of the more active Dawson in the attack, who worked as the first number, got Hopkins’s head with several jabs and was noted for a good three-hit series at the ropes. In the 2nd round, the fight was leveled, but only because Hopkins reduced every attack - an opponent or his own - to a clinch. After one of these episodes, when Bernard missed the right on the crouched Dawson and did not hesitate to lean on him with his whole body weight, Dawson straightened abruptly, dropping Hopkins from himself. Hopkins landed extremely unsuccessfully, injuring his left hand, and was unable to continue the meeting. Mutual squabble of rival teams continued both before and after the verdict of the referee, who awarded the victory to Dawson by TKO in the 2nd round. The result of the battle caused a great deal of controversy, since in this case, according to many, the battle should have been declared invalid. A week after the fight, the WBC committee returned the title to Hopkins, and the result of the match was replaced by a technical draw.
Fight with Bernard Hopkins II
In April 2012 , the revenge of Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson took place. Contrary to expectations, Dawson's advantage was not significant. Hopkins boxed in his corporate style, alternating sharp swoops from a distance and fighting in clinches. In most episodes in the ring, there was an equal fight, sometimes Chad was able to tip the scales in his favor due to greater activity. In the 4th round after a head-on collision, Dawson received a cut over his left eye, and in the second half of the fight, boxer attacks increasingly turned into clinches. At the end of the battle, Hopkins went on an aggravation and evened out the situation in the ring, but following the results of a 12-round standoff, the victory was won by the majority of the judges to Dawson: 114-114 and twice 117-111.
Career Decline
Second middleweight bout with Andre Ward
In September 2012, Ward met light heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson. For the sake of this fight, Dawson went down to the super middleweight, which he has not played since 2006. In the first round, Dawson looked better than the champion. In the second round, Ward adapted to Dawson and seized the initiative. At the end of the third round, Ward knocked out Dowson with a straight left. Dawson looked shocked, but Ward was unable to finish him off. At the start of the fourth round after Ward's left hook, Dawson was again on the floor. Dawson got up and was able to reach the end of the round. Subsequently, Ward continued to beat Dawson. In the seventh round, Dawson did not strike a single accurate hit. In the tenth round, Ward knocked Dawson again. Dawson got up, but referee Steve Smuger stopped the fight.
Fight with Adonis Stevenson
In June 2013, Dawson had a fight with Canadian Adonis Stevenson . At the end of the first minute of the first round, Dawson tried to inflict a right hook, but missed Stevenson's counter left hook in the temple. Dawson fell on the platform, was able to rise at the expense of the referee, but did not restore coordination. The referee decided to stop the fight. For Dawson, this was the second consecutive early defeat in a professional career. This knockout was recognized as “Knockout of the Year” according to the magazine Ring.
Fight Tommy Carpensi
On October 4, 2014, Dawson met with NABA title holder former world title contender Tommy Carpensi . Equal and a bout with varying success, in which one could not and the other did not want to be marked with something really serious and memorable, but the result was in favor of Carpensi by a separate decision of the judges: 96-94 to Dawson and twice to 96-94 Tommy. Capensi, who sensationally defeated Dawson for this, got a chance to fight for the world title against Canadian Adonis Stevenson.
The Fight with Cornelius White
On April 16, 2016, Dawson confidently dealt with compatriot Cornelius White (23-5, 17 KOs) by holding the first match in 2016. The outcome of the battle was a foregone conclusion in the fourth round: Chad shocked the opposite with a blow to the temple from the right, pushed to the ropes and there defused an unrequited a series that forced the referee to end the meeting, not paying attention to the protests of the victim.
Fight with Andrzej Fonfara
March 4, 2017 met with Andrzej Fonfara . The American won the first six rounds - due to the advantage in speed and more accurate combinations of three minutes, he was taken into account. Closer to the 7th round, however, the functional of Chad began to fail, after which Fonfara began to roll. In the 9th round, the Pole managed to dump the enemy on the floor of the ring, and in the first seconds of the final, 10th, to finish off the shocked Dawson. Having missed a heavy blow to the right, Chad staggered, after which he fell a victim of aggressive finishing in a neutral corner.
