In the organization of the military-sanitary unit, which had reached an excellent state in Germany at that time and served as a model for the armies of other European powers, Kohler since the late 1860s took a prominent part, especially on the question of the widest possible use and expedient arrangement of mobile huts, about than he, together with Werner and Langenbeck published an essay entitled Die transportable Lazarettbaracke (2nd ed., Berlin, 1890).
