Mikheev, Vasily Sergeevich

Vasily Sergeevich Mikheev (1888-1920) - revolutionary, participant in the establishment of Soviet power in Tula. One of the city streets was named after him.

Biography

Born in January 1888 in with. Vertem Zhizdrinsky county of Kaluga province. At the age of 15, he came to Tula. After graduating from a vocational school (majoring in locksmithing ) he entered an arms factory .

Participated in revolutionary activities . To avoid arrest, he left for Petrograd . He worked at the Ayvaz factory. For participation in the organization of the strike he was sent to Tula under police supervision . There, for participating in revolutionary work, he was arrested and exiled to a settlement in the Yenisei province .

Released after the February Revolution , returned to Tula. In May 1917 he was elected to the city committee of the RSDLP (b) . He was responsible for the formation of the Red Guard.

Beginning in January 1919, on the instructions of the party committee, he led expeditions for the exchange of goods with the village to supply food to workers at factories. Mikheev, a peasant by birth, turned out to be a good negotiator and business executive. It is known that his first expedition in less than a month in exchange for dishes, salt, matches, candles, kerosene, cigarettes, plows, braids, harrows prepared 260 thousand pounds of bread, as well as meat, eggs, cottage cheese and other products.

During the next expedition he fell ill with typhus and died suddenly on February 8, 1920 in the city of Efremov . He was buried in Tula in a mass grave in the Square of Kommunarov.

Memory

In February 1924, Troitskaya Street (from Voronezh Street to the Upa River) was named after him. It existed until 1937, when Sovetskaya Street was continued. In July 1967, the Tula City Executive Committee renamed the 1st Perekopsky passage to Vasily Mikheev Street.
