Golitsyn, Sergey Mikhailovich (1909)

Prince Sergei Mikhailovich Golitsyn ( March 1 (14), 1909 - November 7, 1989 ) - Russian Soviet writer, memoirist , topographic engineer , military builder , participant of the Great Patriotic War . Member of the Writers' Union since 1965. Grandson of Moscow Governor V. M. Golitsyn .

Biography

Sergei Golitsyn was born in the family estate of Buchalka on March 1 (14), 1909, in the family of Prince Mikhail Vladimirovich Golitsyn (1873-1942) and Anna Sergeyevna, nee Lopukhina (1880-1972). He had five sisters: Alexandra (1900-1991), Sofia (1903-1982), Eugene (1906-1908), Maria (1911-1988), Catherine (1914-2005) and brother Vladimir (1902-1943).

During the repression of the 1920s and 1930s, their family was persecuted. At different times, his grandfather, Vladimir Golitsyn (1847-1932), father, brother, husband of Alexandra's sister, George Osorgin , cousins, some of them died in the camps, were arrested. Later, Sergei Mikhailovich reflected these years in his book, Notes of the Survivor.

Marriage and children

In 1934 he married Claudia Mikhailovna, nee Bavykina (1907-1980). Married:

In 1984, he married Tamara Vasilyevna, nee Grigoryeva (1912-1992) [1] [2] .

He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Lyubets, Kovrovsky district, Vladimir region.

Creativity

Even as a child, under the impression of books read, Sergei Golitsyn wanted to become a writer. After leaving school, in 1927, he entered the Higher Literary Courses (managed to complete three courses, and in 1929 they were closed).

Golitsyn began to publish his first stories for children in the 1930s in the children's magazines Chizh , Murzilka , and the World Pathfinder . However, Sergey Golitsyn was not able to immediately become a professional writer. In the thirties, he began to work as a surveyor, took part in the construction of the Moscow Canal .

July 3, 1941 Sergei Golitsyn was mobilized into a military construction detachment. Since 1943 - Red Army soldier of the 74th military construction detachment of the 27th Directorate of Special Construction under the 48th Army . Participated in the Battle of Kursk , Belarusian and East Prussian offensive operations . As a topographer in the construction units, he went the battle route to Berlin and was demobilized only in 1946 with the rank of private. He was awarded orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree , the Red Star , medals "For Military Merit" , "For the Defense of Moscow" , etc.

After the war, Sergei Golitsyn worked as a surveyor engineer at the State Design Institute.

Since 1959, Sergei Golitsyn became a professional writer. His books about the life of Soviet pioneers - “Forty Prospectors”, “Town of Tomboys”, “Towel Town” and others — were popular. He also wrote historical and historical books - “The Legend of White Stones” and “The Legend of the Land of Moscow”. To create a panorama of Ancient Russia, Golitsyn uses both documentary sources and artistic masterpieces of ancient literature: the annals of “Lives of the Saints”, “ The Word of Igor’s Regiment ”, “The Legend of the Battle of Mamaev ” and others [3] .

Sergey Golitsyn also wrote historical books for children (“Rooks are sailing to the north,” “To the blue Don”, etc.).

In the 1960s and 1970s, Golitsyn wrote several fictionalized biographies of artists.

In the last years of his life, the writer worked on the biographical book Notes of the Survivor. It was published only after his death, in 1990.

Since 1960, Sergei Golitsyn every summer (approximately from April to early October) lived in the village of Lyubets on the banks of the Klyazma . The rest of the time he spent in Moscow .

He was buried in Lyubets, in the fence of the church, which stands on a high hill on the banks of the Klyazma.

The greatest work of his life, on which Sergei Mikhailovich worked for 10 years, was never seen by the writer - on November 7, 1989, he died of an extensive heart attack , in the first half of this last day he was editing a typewritten copy of “Notes of the Survivor”.
