Biography
Born March 22 (April 3), 1873 in Moscow in a theatrical family. Father was a musician ( double bass player ), mother is a dramatic actress . His brother Sergey also became an opera singer.
After the death of his parents, Michael was brought up with his grandmother - actress of the Moscow Maly Theater - S.P. Akimova . In 1900 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Moscow University . In 1898-1900, he simultaneously studied singing at the Music and Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society and connected his subsequent life with art.
In 1903, Engel-Kron made his debut in the Moscow theater " Aquarium " ( M. Medvedev's entreprise ). Mikhail Mikhailovich performed on the opera stage until 1925. He worked in Kiev (1903, 1904, 1906), Tiflis (1907), Baku and Kharkov (1908-1910), Petersburg (1913-1915, including the People’s House [1] ), Yekaterinoslav . In 1910-1913, he organized an opera partnership with his brother in Kharkov .
After the October Revolution , from 1919, he also conducted pedagogical activities. He taught at the Yekaterinoslav College of Music (in 1920-1922; he was the director of the Yekaterinoslav Conservatory created on its basis), in 1921-1923 he was a professor at the Yekaterinoslav Conservatory, in 1923-1929 he taught at the Kiev Conservatory (professor) [2] and the Music Drama Institute. N.V. Lysenko (until 1931). For unknown reasons, he left Kiev for Sverdlovsk , where in 1931-1933 he headed the department and was dean of the vocal faculty of the Ural Regional Music College. Among his students were E. M. Verbitskaya , I. Vitlin , E. Drozdovsky, S. Ivashchenko, K. Laptev , S. Khromchenko , M. Shevchenko.
He died on March 23 (according to some sources , March 21 ), 1933 in Sverdlovsk.
