Geography
Located 6 km from the administrative center of the rural settlement - the village of Elasy , on the right bank of the Malaya Yunga River .
History
In the XIX - early XX centuries, the settlement belonged in different years to the Bolshe-Yunginsky, Kozmodemyanskaya and Kulakovskaya volosts of the Kozmodemyanskiy district . In 1921-1931, it was the center of the Kartukovsky district of the Kozmodemyansky canton of the Mari autonomous region , in 1926-1954 - the center of the Kartukovsky village council. In 1936-1959, the village belonged to the now abolished Elasovsky district . In 1954-1981, the village was part of the Elasovsky Village Council, in 1981-1989 - the Usolin Village Council, and from 1989 - the Kartukovsky Village Council of the Gornomariysky District [4] . In 2009, the Kartukovo rural settlement was abolished, settlements, including Kartukovo, became part of the Elasovsky rural settlement [5] .
In the lists of settlements of the Kazan province of 1859, the Kartukov settlement from the village of Chertakova (Chalymkina) is mentioned under the official name [6] .
In 1880, a two-altered wooden church was built with parishes in the name of St. George the Victorious and Archangel Michael . In 1939, by order of the Soviet authorities, the church was closed and ruined, in 1974 it was demolished [4] .
