Anchovella [1] ( lat. Amblygaster ) is a genus of ray-finned fish of the anchovy family. These small pelagic fish live in the tropical waters of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, there are marine, brackish and freshwater species. They feed on plankton and crustaceans . They are the subject of commercial fishing [2] [3] .

Description
The body is fusiform, covered with cycloid scales , the head is naked. The only dorsal fin is located in the middle of the body. The base of the anal fin is usually located behind the base of the dorsal fin. The maximum length is about 13 cm, on average they do not exceed 6-8 cm, some species no more than 3 cm. The snout is pointed or blunt, in some species it is very short. The lower jaw has small teeth. The branchial stamens are thin, few, on the first arch of the lower arch from 14-18 to 35. In the anal fin from 10-15 to 11 branching rays. [2] .
The lateral line is absent, on the head there are developed seismic sensor channels. The fins are devoid of prickly rays. The caudal fin is notched. The laterally compressed snout protrudes forward; mouth is large, half-lower; the posterior end of the long maxillary bone extends beyond the margin of the prelap. The color is silver, the back is blue or greenish-brown; in some species, a dark longitudinal strip stretches along the sides [4] .
Scales easily fall off. The mouth opening is very wide. The maxillary bones are long and thin. The teeth are usually arranged in a row. Large eyes are located close to the end of the snout and are covered externally with a transparent skin film [5] .
