According to their owners, the surname originates (according to an invention of the 18th century) from the Germanic family of Kos-von-Dalen [3] . In fact, their ancestors were the people of Prince Ivan Yuryevich Patrikeev - Mituya Andreevich Kozodavlev and Timofey Andreyevich Kozodavlev . The first of these, according to the princely testament (1498), was inherited by his wife, and the second was set free. . Gleb Ignatievich Kozodavlev subscribed to an assignment note for Prince Silver (1565). Funik Prokofievich Kozodavlev was a Novgorod boyar (1606), and his son Ivan "for participating in the Tikhvin seat" was granted a patrimony (1618).
The emblem of the Kozodavlev family was included in Part 1 of the General Armorial of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire , p. 67 [4] .
