Sever is a series of special multifunctional car trails created by Twema Firm JSC. It includes five basic versions, differing in purpose and, accordingly, equipment [1] :
- diagnostic complex , or SUPDK (self-propelled universal versatile measuring and diagnostic complex for working in the Far North and the Far East) - a platform for placing diagnostic systems (ultrasound, magnetic, laser, radar, etc.) for various purposes; by drawing number passes as model 2850 [1] [2] [3] ;
- a complex of secondary diagnostics and emergency work - is intended for reliable confirmation and elimination of identified malfunctions of infrastructure objects [1] ;
- Inspection car - designed for inspection by the heads of railway companies, equipped with video monitoring systems, monitoring and other necessary equipment [1] ;
- geological motor -track - a complex of complete engineering-geological sounding, diagnostics of the ballast layer and the subgrade of the railway; equipped with a crane mounted on a cargo platform, a drilling rig and a set of drilling tools [1] ;
- passenger-and-freight motor-car - is intended for comfortable transportation of track crews of up to 50 people to the place of work, can be equipped with a cargo platform with the necessary equipment (manipulator, etc.) [1] .

History of the series
In the early 2000s, the bottleneck in ensuring traffic safety on railways in Russia was the lack of a JCSS unified to perform various tasks in diagnosing the state of infrastructure facilities and track facilities. The goal of creating the “North” series was to fill this gap [4] .
To reduce energy costs, improve environmental parameters and increase the efficiency of rolling stock use in general, the project was developed using advanced technical solutions of both domestic and foreign enterprises [4] .
The development of the project was completed in 2009 . In the same year, a prototype of a motor-track made by SUPDK was created, which then came to the Far Eastern Railway [4] [5] .

As mentioned above, the car can be made in five basic versions.
As of the end of 2016 , it was known that 14 Sever series cars were being built: 13 in the performance of the SUPDK (numbers 001–009 and 011–014) and one in the performance of the inspection rail (number 010) [5] .

Design
Mechanical equipment
Body
The car body has a symmetrical car layout (control cabs at both ends). On the side of each cab for coupling with another rolling stock is located automatic coupling CA-3 [3] .
The supporting body structure is a closed thin-walled welded shell. To ensure mechanical reliability, the shell design is supplemented with longitudinal and transverse stiffeners. Cutouts for windows and doors are made in the shell, as well as for servicing the car and roof equipment [3] .
The most complex element of the body structure is the car frame. The frame bears the load from the assemblies and assemblies of a motor rail mounted on it, such as a power plant (including a diesel engine, electric generators, etc.), a fuel tank, a battery box and, for the respective versions, a diagnostic trolley. In order to increase the strength of the frame has a spinal beam, which has a variable cross section and is interrupted in the area of installation of the power plant. In the places of interruption, welded transverse and longitudinal channel beams with a variable cross section are installed [3] .
For laying electric cables symmetrically with respect to the spinal beam, two longitudinal ducts are made [3] .
For the manufacture of racks of the side walls, a steel bent zeta profile (Z-shaped section profile) was used. The side walls are made of rolled steel corner. Corrugated sheet steel was used to cover the side walls. The thermal insulation of the body is ensured by a special “TCM-ceramics” coating, innovative at the time of development of the machine [3] [4] .
A curved zeta profile is also used for roof arches. The middle part of the roof and its slopes are corrugated [3] .
The front part has shockproof racks made of channel. The front part has a skin without corrugations [3] .
All elements of the body, both profile and sheet, are made of structural steels of various grades [3] .
The outer side doors are single-leaf and have an electropneumatic drive [3] .
Carts
Two biaxial traction (motor) trolleys of model 18-9958, equipped with traction electric motors (TED), roll under the motor-car. Carts of a similar design are used for serial Russian electric trains ( ET2M , etc.). On the tackle bar of the trolley there are side bearings on which the carriage body rests. Cylindrical shells are welded at both ends of the nadressor bar to install central suspension springs. Through these springs, the beam rests on the trolley frame. The trolley has a central suspension with a cradle returning device, on which three-row cylindrical coil springs are installed. To damp vibrations in order to ensure a smooth ride, reduce the harmful effects on the rail track and reduce wear of parts, the design of the trolley includes a piston hydraulic damper. Double-acting damper (develops resistance forces both during compression and tension). It is installed at an angle to the horizon, which provides simultaneous damping of vertical and horizontal vibrations. The frame design of the trolley - box, welded; consists of two longitudinal and two transverse beams. The transverse beams in the central part have bends in the direction of the path. In these places with the help of brackets TEDs are fastened (one per axis) [3] .
Wheel pairs are combined with a trolley frame by axle suspension. trolley The axle suspension of the trolley is arranged as follows. Efforts in the longitudinal direction are transmitted through two leashes arranged obliquely. They are fixed with bolts in the wedge grooves of the axlebox brackets and the trolley frame. In parallel with the leashes for damping the vertical vibrations of the frame relative to the wheelset, a disk damper is mounted. As an elastic element, two two-row sets of springs mounted on the wings of the axle box body work with this damper [3] .
The wheelset is made in accordance with GOST 11018-2000 and consists of two cast wheels of a retaining type and an axis of type PM5, on which they are pressed. Motor car wagon according to GOST 398-96 with a diameter of 1050 mm in a driving circle. To transmit torque from the TED gearbox on the axis there is a gear [3] .
Powerplant
Motor car "Sever" can be called a thermoelectric car, because an electric transmission was used to transfer energy from a diesel engine [3] .
The machine is equipped with a MTU Power Pack power plant, including a frame, a diesel engine, two electric generators (traction and auxiliary needs), a brake compressor, a pre-heating system, a power system and an exhaust system. The engine and the traction generator are attached to the frame through rubber shock absorbers, and the frame itself to the body through rubber-metal shock absorbers [3] .
Electrical Equipment
Each axis of the machine is equipped with its own TED type TDM-1M (DK120AM). The traction generator supplies energy to four TEDs of a motor rail, and the auxiliary generator supplies all the remaining electrical equipment of the car [3] [1] .
Interior
The control cabins are located at both ends of the car and are equipped with digital control panels. For the work of the crew equipped with a hardware salon and workshops. For relaxation, a compartment, a kitchen-dining room and a shower room with the necessary equipment are provided. The rooms are equipped with a climate control system. An automatic fire extinguishing system for rooms and engine compartment [1] is provided.
Operation
At the end of 2016, out of 14 cars built, the first eight parted on eight different roads (indicated on the card) [5] . The first motor-car was transferred in 2009 to the Far Eastern Railway [4] .
