Song
From the very beginning, the song was conceived as a counterbalance to the song “ Bohemian Rhapsody ” and was in many ways similar to it. In both compositions there is no definite style, and in both songs there is a polyphonic choir, actually made with the help of three people. However, a full copy failed. In "Somebody to Love" there is a constant plot and there is no such deep philosophical meaning.
The theme of the song is as follows: the narrator asks God to find someone to love him. The narrator works a lot, constantly gets tired, suffers ridicule, but says that one day he will come out of such a state.
A choir from Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor participated in the recording. Their voices were copied so many times to create the feeling of a 100-voice high gospelly choir. The choir has something in common with Mercury's independent party. However, Mercury did not leave such a musical form permanent. The song included May's guitar solo, and after the words “Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord”, the voice form changes. He stops singing the chorus, and the words “Find me somebody to love”, which are constantly beginning to repeat, Mercury sings in a lower voice. The second time May sings with him, the third time the drums come in and Mercury’s inserts begin. The party is getting higher, then Taylor connects and the choir becomes as it was before. The words "Can anybody find me somebody to love?" Sings Mercury in a high voice. Then the chorus sings again along with the vocalist, and the song at the end loses its solemnity. After that, only echoes of Mercury are heard and the song quietly ends to the quiet sounds of the piano.
The song was included in the compilation Greatest Hits in 1981 .
At the concert of The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992, the song was performed by George Michael . In 1993, “Somebody to Love” was released as the opening track of the Five Live mini-album , which reached the first line of the British charts. Also, this version of the song was released in the compilation Greatest Hits III in 1999 .
In honor of the song named one of the series of the television series " That '70s Show ". This episode went along with the series, named after the other song of the band - “ Bohemian Rhapsody ”.

Video Clip
The video was shot by director Bruce Gowers. In this clip, a change in the group image begins. Also in this video, the band is last shown playing glam rock style.
The main action takes place in the studio. At the beginning, Mercury appears at the piano, singing the first words. His hair is not as long and luxurious as before. He wears a pink and black Hawaiian shirt and white pants. They are wearing jewelry - two bracelets on his left hand, two rings on his right hand and two chains on his neck. Mercury's nails are not painted. From this clip began to change his appearance. After the first shots the scene of the concert in Hyde Park is shown. The clip often shows footage from a concert in Hyde Park . Then you see a choir from Taylor, May and Mercury. This chorus will often be shown further in the video. May is wearing a sweater, but when he shows up outside the choir, a black jacket appears on it. Taylor is dressed in a black shirt and black pants, and outside the choir he has white suspenders. Further, it shows the choir of three people, the whole group for their instruments. This is where John Deacon first appears. He is wearing a light plaid shirt.
In the second part, when the choir begins to sing from low notes and gradually rises, the Deacon is connected to the choir. Then a new choir of four musicians is shown, then Taylor behind the drum set, then Mercury at the piano, or live recordings.
The video almost does not use special effects, only the simplest superimposition of a frame on a frame, this is mainly used when the soloist sings with the choir and they are shown simultaneously.
The video used the recordings from the concert in Hyde Park of the following songs:
- Ogre Battle
- " The Prophet's Song "
- " Brighton Rock "
- " Liar "
- " In the Lap of the Gods ... (Revisited) "
- "Sweet Lady"
The footage from this video was used in the clips for the songs “ Bicycle Race ” and “ Radio Ga Ga ”. True, in the first case there was a modified chorus frame and concert part, and in the second case only concert videos.
