Mata (Marta) de Mata ( French: Mathe de Matha ; c. 1223 - between 1270 and 1273) - Viscountess de Marsan since 1251. Daughter of Boson de Mata, Senora de Cognac, and Petronella of Commenzha .

Born approx. 1223 years. Some sources indicate the year 1228, but then Petronella de Commenge was already 44 years old, which in those days went far beyond childbearing age.
After the death of her mother (1251), Marsan inherited the Viscountry . In the dispute over the Bigor inheritance, together with her husband, Gaston VII de Bearn, she supported the single-breasted sister, Alix de Montfort , who opposed Simon de Montfort .
After the death of Alix de Montfort (1255), her son Esquivat IV de Chabane captured the possessions of Mata in Lower Bigor. Gaston VII besieged Tarbes, after which Prince Edward of England intervened in the war. Through his mediation, a peace was concluded, according to which Mata got back all the lands taken by her nephew.
The date of Mata's death is not mentioned in the sources. It is known that during the daughter’s wedding (1270) she was still alive, and on April 2, 1273 her widowed husband Gaston VII already married a second time - Beatrice of Savoy.
