History
In December 1942, near Tambov, the largest network of concentration camps in the USSR was created for the prisoners of war of the Hitler coalition and internees. About 100,000 people stayed in them at a time, moreover, from all Soviet ends. the Tambov camps were the most βinternationalβ: there were not only Germans, Italians, Hungarians, but also Japanese, Belgians, French, Luxembourgers, and even the British. The largest of them was camp No. 188, near the Rada station. [2]
On August 8, 1998, a memorial complex appeared on the site of the camp. During a meeting between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker in August 2010, an agreement was reached to create a monument at the Tambov memorial in memory of prisoners of war in Luxembourg. On September 26, 2012, a monument to the dead and buried 174 subjects of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, who were called up to the Wehrmacht , was unveiled at the Rada station. [3]
