Simonov, Alexander Filippovich

Alexander Filippovich Simonov - creator of the project (1909) and a prototype of a helicopter (1911), designer and draftsman of the Taganrog boiler plant .

Biography

Alexander Filippovich Simonov worked as a drawing designer at the Taganrog boiler plant [1] . In 1909, after experiments with models of propellers and helicopters, he developed a helicopter project, which was assembled in Taganrog in 1911 [1] .

An empty helicopter weighed 136 kg. Anzani engine of 25 hp was used on it. The first tests on the ground showed the good work of the parts and components of the helicopter (there were "only minor damage") [1] . But the capricious Anzani engine discharged from Paris was apparently damaged along the way and very quickly failed [1] .

There was no money for a new engine, and Simonov turned to the All-Russian Aero Club for help in St. Petersburg. The further fate of the helicopter Simonov is unknown [1] .
