The 13th mechanized battalion ( Slovak 13. (Trinásty) mechanizovaný prápor ) is the main motorized unit of the Slovak army that is part of the elite 1st mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Slovakia . The battalion is under the direct command of the Ground Forces of Slovakia . The battalion is located in Levice [1] . Since June 2012, the commander of the battalion is Lt. Col. Peter Bagachka [2] [3] .

History
There are two versions of the origin of the Levitsky battalion. One version comes from the 67th Presov Infantry Regiment created in 1860 in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire . The second version, that the battalion comes from the 12th Infantry Regiment of the Czechoslovak Legion located in Russia , which was founded on July 15, 1918 in Tomsk and which was restored after the war in Levice as the 12th Infantry Regiment, gradually the name of the reorganized regiment was changed to 8th Rifle Regiment [4] . In May 1958, the regiment was renamed the 64th motorized rifle regiment and took the combat banner from the 64th Presov Infantry Regiment, thereby becoming the successor and confirming the first version [4] . In 1966, the name of the regiment was again changed from a motorized rifle to a tank, and in 1969 it was part of the 13th Topolchansky Panzer Division. On September 30, 1995 the regiment was renamed once again, this time in the 12th Tank Brigade, and already on October 1, 2000 the regiment was reorganized into the 2nd Mechanized [4] . On January 1, 2004, a mechanized battalion was created, and on October 1, 2006 it was renamed the 13th mechanized battalion and was subordinate to the 1st mechanized brigade located in Topolchany [4] .

The battalion is armed with several types of military equipment, including BMP-1 , BMP-2 , mortars , etc. [5]
